The Luxair air-tight ducting was designed to be self-sealing and requires no ducting tape at its joints where the couplings meet the components, however if you are using the flexible aluminium tubes, ducting silencers or the flexible flat pvc connections, you must use ducting tape to seal the joints.

Having the correct kitchen cooker hood ducting is crucial for effective ventilation in your kitchen. The diameter and length of the ducting must be appropriate to ensure optimal performance of your kitchen extractor. Unfortunately, many installers make the mistake of using 100mm plastic washer-dryer ducts, which are incompatible with kitchen extractors and can compromise air flow quality and may also be a fire hazard if used.

Luxair recommend through years of experience that, first check the motor airflow rate of the extractor you wish to purchase, for example if the motor rating is below 450m³/hr then its ok to use 100mm ducting, if the motor is above 450m³/hr and up to 750m³/h then you can use 125mm or 150mm ducting, either flat or round is suffice on all wall mounted or Island cooker hoods.

Some of our more premium wall mounted hoods, such as the Lusso range with motor ratings of 1350m³/hr must be installed on either 150mm or 200mm ducting due to the very powerful extraction rates. .

Its our recommendation that when fitting ceiling cooker hoods, its always advisable to use 6" ( 150mm ) round ducting or the equivalent 220mm x 90mm flat channel pipe.
